Over the past months, community safety committees (CSC) were formed in Al-Mukalla, Taiz, Aden, Sana’a, and Dhamar with a committee in each city. This was in close coordination with the concerned local authorities and institutions. Committees members represent the targeted police station and the local communities with at least 30% women participation.
The committee formation followed consultative workshops in each city, in which high-level representatives from the police and the security institutions and community members have participated. The CSCs and their role in the community safety project were discussed and finalized according to the needs in every cities.
It is worth mentioning that each CSC is currently developing and implementing pilot initiatives aiming to improve the day-to-day safety of citizens with logistic and financial support from the community safety project based on a local needs assessment conducted earlier by the CSCs.
