The community safety committee in Aden implemented an awareness training session in Crater District, on rapid and initial interventions during fires. This training was the last activity from the second initiative that the committee has launched during December 2021, to address domestic fires in areas experiencing high rates of fire incidents in Crater.
In the training, 75 male and female participants were introduced to the different types of fire extinguishers, and were trained on how to use them. The training presented the participants with fire evacuation procedures as well as other important safety guidelines. Some awareness posters were also distributed among participants. Participants were also notified about how to access the basic firefighting kits that were earlier distributed over 14 different sites in the targeted neighborhoods, which aimed to contribute to quick action during fire emergencies.
According to colonel Mohammed Al-Shamiri, the General Director of Civil Defense, most fire incidents that happened during previous years were mainly attributed to the lack of awareness, and to the fact that people are not sufficiently trained on how to instantly react during emergencies that occur at their homes, in streets or even in public and private places. Therefore, the initiative comes to contribute to enhancing the Civil Defense efforts of public safety and disasters prevention towards reducing accidents at the District level.
Nabeel Amer, Head of Crater Police attended the opening session along with Fahd Saleem Shawan, Head of the Community Safety Committee, and some other social figures from Crater District.
